5 key points as we head to Phillip Island.

Round 1 of the Logitech G Pro Invitational Qualifying series is set to embark on the journey to Phillip Island. 66 years after hosting its inaugural event in December of 1956, The stage is now set for us to tackle the 5.3 kilometre circuit albeit virtually in what is set to be a fantastic opening to the 2023 season.

Given this is the first venue we will see racing on for the Logitech G Pro invitational series in 2023, we thought we’d look at some our key areas around Phillip Island.

1. Miller Corner.

Formerly named Honda hairpin, Miller corner will provide an entertaining start to the race. 45 cars with the combined horsepower of 28,500hp will head towards the Miller corner hairpin on lap one, anything is possible. We’ve seen some big incidents over the years, 2023 is guaranteed to be no exception.

2. Southern Loop.

One of the most exciting and high paced corners on the Phillip Island circuit. Carrying an average speed of around 118km per hour, Southern Loop can be a place that provides some of the best racing any track in the country can offer. A Strong corner exit from turn 1 can provide the opportunity to pounce into Southern loop, while setup off of the corner can present the opportunity to pass further down at Miller corner. Whatever you do don’t find yourself off the track at the loop, you’ll be set of a big excursion.

3. Pit entry.

Exiting turn 11 you’ll find pit entry on the left. Pit entry provides a challenge like no other, commitment being the difference between gaining and loosing time. The challenging narrow piece of road forces you to commit to the entry line, as you attempt to slow down to the 72km per hour limit that is enforced by iRacing regulations. Put one foot wrong you may find yourself with a penalty, or even find yourself off the track entirely.

4. Turn 12.

Arguably One of the most challenging corners at Phillip island. A challenge at the best of times, Turn 12 will provide plenty of entertainment with a compressed field, all trying to manage their slide and throttle applications, trying to get a run down the start finish straight looking for a pass into Doohan Corner.

5. Draft.

Draft can prove to be a great equaliser. A track that consists of an average speed of 174km per hour, Your ability to utilise it may be key to finishing in a strong position. We could see a lot of fuel saving & tyre preservation throughout the race, those who manage it best will come out on top.

What are your key areas around the Phillip Island circuit?

Kurt Stenberg -“I feel like I’m driving the best I have when I get some preparation behind me”

The Logitech G Pro Invitational series is fast approaching in 2023. For driver Kurt Stenberg, It’s an opportunity to write the wrongs of a difficult season in 2022.

23rd in the championship last season, Kurt found himself outside the automatic promotion cutoff at seasons end. Although a difficult season, There are plenty of reasons for Kurt to be considered a force to be reckoned with in 2023.

A 10th place in the final round of the Logitech G Pro Invitational Series at Phillip island was a reminder of what this driver is capable of when he can get a clean run of things.

Speaking with Kurt, We got great insight into his pre qualifying campaign.

“I was quite surprised to be so far up the order in pre qualifying to be honest. I only put about 20 minutes into Winton. I did a reasonable amount of laps at Hungaroring but that was more about the challenge of learning a new track, checking over the rig after some off season changes and getting some data to help some teammates, more than it was about lap time.

It's filled me with some confidence going into round 1 of the Logitech G Pro Invitational Series qualifiers. Phillip Island has been probably been my strongest track in the Gen 2 Supercars. We had a decent result there in the final round of 2022 and a solid result in V8SCOPS 2 years ago."

"I feel like I'm driving the best I ever have when I get some preparation behind me"

After a confidence filling pre qualifying campaign Kurt will look to continue his run of form into the qualification rounds. Speaking with Kurt, He was honest about his aspirations moving forward. A more relaxed approach seems to be on the cards in 2023.

“The goal for me isn't to qualify for the series. If i miss out on racing it doesn't worry me too much. I'm out there to try and get a podium and be up the front which I feel i isn't unrealistic. All the tracks on the schedule are tracks I enjoy and have had success at. The field is pretty competitive but after 10 years of iRacing Supercars racing that doesn't really worry me.

If we can get the results, The qualifying part takes care of itself. If i don't qualify it's very good preparation for the endurance races”.

Finally, When speaking about the key to maintaining performance throughout the qualifying series, Kurt believes his motivation will be the key.

“Motivation will be key. Racing back to back weeks at a high level is tough due to the level of preparation and personal commitment required. I'm very glad all the tracks I have raced in the past 6 months, Which makes that less of an issue than it normally would be. I personally struggle to maintain motivation and the competitive streak in sim racing especially after a difficult result. So the key will be maintaining the motivation to go out there the next week and get a good result if one of the races doesn't go to plan. You can't afford to have more than 1 bad race in such a short series”

There’s no doubt Kurt Stenberg is a driver to keep a close eye on in the 2023 Logitech G Pro Invitational Series. With the ability to exceed even the very best on his day, Kurt will be up the front and fighting to claim a place on the 2023 Logitech G Pro Invitational series grid.

3 Reasons why Hayden Harrison’s switch to 9ine 5ive SimSport could be a masterstroke.

Pre qualifying is is now complete for the Logitech G Pro Invitational series in 2023. With a number of new names making the call we also see the return of some of the 2022 field. One of which is Hayden Harrison.

A difficult debut campaign in 2022 with Send It SimSports saw Hayden buried in the field for the majority of the season resulting in 35th in the championship with a best race finish of 21st. Although on paper it looked like a poor season, it’s not all doom and gloom.

2023 marks a fresh start for Harrison, moving to 9ine 5ive SimSport over the off season in the hopes to find improvement before 2023 well and truly takes full flight.

Here’s 3 reasons why we feel Hayden Harrison’s move to 9ine 5ive could be the beginning of something great:

  • Shawn McNamara. Building 9ine 5ive from the ground up has been a incredible achievement for team owner Shawn McNamara but it’s Shawn’s approach to giving people a opportunity that is truely admirable. With many fledging young drivers within the lineup, This could prove to be the perfect fit for Hayden moving forward.

  • Hayden gets a chance to revitalise his sim racing career by challenging himself against some of the best young up and coming stars in the team, and also established performers like Dylan Rudd, who was a regular top 10 contender at the end of the 2022 season, as well as new recruit and establihed front runner Griffin Gardiner. His experience can lend a hand to the young stars, whilst their speed can push Hayden to find success.

  • A new team along with a new championship campaign for 2023 will provide Hayden with new opportunities and a fresh mindset to start the year. Some of the best drivers experience turmoil and difficulties in the early stages of their careers while trying to establish themselves, this will only fuel the fire to turn results around. By making a change, this is the first stepping stone in what will hopefully be a great 2023 for Hayden Harrison.

Does Hayden Harrison have what it takes in 2023? We sure think he does!
