Dylan Rudd, 95 Simsports, Take a bow!

The best 40 supercar drivers from Australia and New Zealand, the best teams with the biggest name drivers. It is no mean feat to bag a top ten in that company! And that exactly what Dylan Rudd did at Monza.

Qualifying a jaw dropping sixth, Rudd made up for him embarrassing grid crash at Red Bull by bringing home the teams first top ten result.

Rudd looked fast all night, his car balance and set up traits made the most of the unique Monza layout, having healthy speed trap numbers whilst maintaining good low speed traction out of the slow chicanes and great kerb control. 9ine 5ive Sim Sport has been knocking on the door in recent rounds, one of the smaller teams beginning to really challenge for results more consistantly.

Rudd engaged in a battle for seventh late in the race, where he smartly decided to bring the car home rather than risk it, he knew this breakthrough would be a big moment for the team. Were looking forward to see Rudd and McNamara come enduro time, as both have real endurance credentials and a strong pool of drivers to choose from internally. 9ine 5ive Sim Sports are on the up and up, follow their socials to hear all the latest and follow their progress.

The ERT EGG is Back!

Ethan Grigg Gault is definitely one of the best in the series on his day. Showing time and time again over the years, EGG is the complete package.

In recent times though, Ethan has fell short of where we all know Ethan can be! But at Monza, a late race battle with some of the hardest chargers on the grid showed us once again what Ethan is capable of. A podium for his troubles is the perfect way for himself and ERT to springboard off.

You get that feeling that Ethan is building strength as the rounds go on, each round an improvement on the last. EGG and ERT are building together into genuine race winning contenders. We spoke to Ethan, and it was great to hear him analyse his race and talk enthusiastically about his racing, and that’s why we’re sure you will see more of this from him as the season rolls on.

“We knew that coming into Monza would be a very setup sensitive circuit, I put a fair bit of effort into the straight-line speed and bump damping while trying to maintain decent tyre life from the expected hot temperatures, so trying to balance low wing with tyre life was quite tricky. We probably ended up on the conservative end of the scale to be honest, might have to go more aggressive on setup next round to find those few more tenths. The SSR boost cars seemed very fast down the straight but lacked through the second sector, and TTR's car was excellent in corners and braking but just lacked a little top speed. Our car seemed to fall right in the middle so it made the end race battle with Kostecki and Warren quite exciting”.

Were excited to see what Ethan can produce for the rest of the year, Tune in on August 31st for the next instalment of the 2022 Logitech G Pro Invitational Supercar Series.

Anderson Makes no Excuse

Whilst the Logitech G Pro Invitational Supercar Series takes a break leading into the next round at Spa, a championship favourite will be hard at work improving the ergonomics of his new rig.

Josh Anderson entered the season as one of the title hopefuls, and a second place finish at the opening round got things off to an impressive start. From that point however, things went against Andersons expectations.

Winton was the first sign the Cooldrive Mustang didn’t look comfortable, Anderson not able to maximise the potential of his new rig. His legs going numb is not ideal for sim racers, who rely on less senses than real life drivers to feel the car underneath them.

"His legs going numb is not ideal for sim racers, who rely on less senses than real life drivers to feel the car underneath them."

Red Bull Ring and Monza were more indications Anderson has struggled to find the right balance with his new equipment. Josh is refusing to blame his struggles to come to terms with his new rig on his recent performances, and he is working hard to get back to the front, where he belongs. Anderson still sits a handy seventh in the title chase, and there is still plenty to play for, so his championship charge still has plenty of time to get back on track.

The Logitech G Pro Invitational Supercar Series resumes on August 31st in Belgium, tune in to see Anderson fight back!

Recap: High Speed Drama at Monza

The Logitech G Pro Invitational Super Series took us to the nostalgic countryside of Italy for round 4. Monza is a high speed, tactical and quirky circuit, it rewards those who can think on their feet and outsmart the competition.

The long straights keep the competition close, and playing the long game with track position and fuel saving is vital to breaking your rivals ability to hang with you in the final sprint to the line.

Jarrad Filsell threw all of these facts out the window as he claimed pole position and drove away from the field in his SSR Boost Mobile Commodore. Not even the TTR machine of Madison Down was able to hang on in the draft, as Filsell took a commanding lead, making no mistakes, and cruised to a victory just shy of 15 seconds. This drive cannot be undersold, on this circuit, with this level of competition, this will be one Jarrad looks back on as one of his all-time mighty performances. It wasn’t flashy, door banging or edge of the seat to watch, but this was a powerful statement from the runaway championship leader.

TTR’s Madison Down lined up on the front row, but his lack of preparation soon caught up with him as in the race, he slipped back from Filsell, effectively being forced into leading the draft train, where those behind him were able to utilise Madison for their advantage. Once again, Ethan Warren continues to bank solid results, lining up third and coming home in fourth after a late race battle with Brodie Kosteki and Ethan Grigg Gault. It was a battle for second, but Ethan’s maturity to bank a whole lot of points moved him up to second in the championship. This is turning into a real shot at the title for TTR, as he continues to run right at the pointy end.

A spectacular fight for fifth place between Madison Down and Brady Meyers ended as TTR team boss was spun at the second chicane, a passing attempt from Madison backfiring as he ran in deep, almost forcing Brady off the road, the two coming together on the exit of the chicane. It would have been an interesting conversation afterwards!

Evolution Racing Teams Ethan Grigg Gault found his form and scored his first podium of 2022. Qualifying fourth, Ethan always looked fast and was able to utilise his speed to run the optimum strategy, giving him a chance to fight for second at the end. EGG will be stoked to get a podium under his belt, as will all the people at ERT. It wasn’t without drama though as a software blunder in the first pit stop over fuelled his car, his strategy to come out behind Filsell ruined as his car didn’t drop when it was supposed to, even still his resilience to reset and refocus after their plan went wayward is something ERT and EGG will be proud of.

The biggest mover in the top 10 was Brodie Kosteki. Qualifying 10th, Kosteki set off after a podium from the outset, moving his way past Ross, Rudd and Maloney in the opening stages, his SSR Boost Mobile Commodore a missile on the straights. Brodie ran the race with patients and used the whole race to edge closer to a podium, and in the final stages he was able to pounce and use his straight line speed to his advantage. Coming home in second, another team 1-2 was looking unlikely after qualifying, but Kosteki pulled off an incredible come back to come home in second.

The usual suspects of Burton, Maloney and Ross finished inside the top 10. But it was a break out performance for 9ine 5ive Sim Sports Dylan Rudd. After and embarrassing start line crash at the previous round, Rudd and the whole team at 95SS will be ecstatic with their first top 10 result of 2022. Rudd didn’t fluke it or get lucky with a safety car, he fought inside the top 10 all race, he held his own in a battle with Burton, Maloney and Ross all the way to the finish line, securing 10th place.

Pursuit Sim Racing’s Andrew Gilliam and Vendaval Sim Racing Driver Griffin Gardiner will be ruing an early race battle, dropping them off the battle ahead, the draft train so powerful the duo were unable to make up time and challenge for a top 10 finish. Gilliam would end up 11th, in the same spot as he qualified, whilst Griffin posted a result outside the top 10 all season, coming home battled and bruised in 16th, the Vendaval pilot won’t be happy his string of top results has ended.

In amongst this battle, four SSR cars of Freer, Rosella, Jones and Hobson battled their way through the final laps, Freer getting the best of his team mates in 12th, continuing to collect points. Freer sits ninth in the standings after round 4, his ability to get his SSR Mustang across the line in strong positions helping to solidify his championship aspirations.

Josh Anderson has endured a torrid couple of rounds. Netting a qualifying position of P20 and coming home only 17th, the TTR Cooldrive Racing driver will be feverishly making adjustment to his new sim rig in order to unlock the race winning pace he displayed in the early rounds. 17th is not where Anderson expects to be, and we expect he will bounce back at round 5, you can bet on it!

Wayne Bourke likewise had a terrible night. Unable to post a lap in Qualifying, Bourke started off the last row. Bourke is a race winning, experienced and capable performer, so it was a shock to everyone to see the SSR Commodore line up last on the grid. But Bourke would set off on a charge, overstepping the mark in the first stint and earning a drive through penalty. It doesn’t seem like it, but for Bourke to climb back to 19th, ahead of the likes of Ian Ford and Richie Stanaway, after qualifying last and earning a drive through penalty is some sort of drive, also considering there was no safety car, We say look out for Bourke in the coming rounds, as if he can nail a good lap in qualifying, we should see him provide excitement right up the front.

Blake Worbys had a quiet night, coming home in 24th. But he continues to collect points and maintains his position inside the vital top 20, for a small team like WK&P, that is an achievement in itself.

Now we have a mid-season break before we head to the hills of Belgium for round 5 of the Logitech G Pro Invitational Supercar Series at Spa. Tune in on August 31st at 7:30pm for all the action. In the meantime, watch our socials and website for all the latest news and endure pairings!

Hayden Harrision: 5 Keys to Success at Monza

Monza in Italy is the next stop on the calendar for the Supercars Pro Invitational Series and despite seeming like a fairly straight forward curcuit, this is one of the toughest to get right in the Supercar. We spoke to Hayden Harrision and asked him for 5 things that he thinks are vital to success in Round 4.

Being in draft

A key aspect to Monza is being in draft with the car in front of you. In qualy scenario this gives you massive gains on your delta down the straights. While in race mode this also helps with your lap time speed but also gives you the opportunity to save fuel as the car in front is punching a hole for you. Less fuel being used equals a longer stint and more variations in strategy on your opponent’s.

Car setup

Monza is known for its long straights which is why I’ve said being in draft is key. Another advantage you can gain from these long straights with your setup is running less rear wing. If you can manage to build a set that still has the desirable amount of downforce for the corners with less wing, you’ll be a rocket down the straight for big moves into the heavy braking zones.

Rear tyre life

The rear tyres will be your best friend at monza. Especially coming out of the tricky turn 1-2 complex. The nicer you protect your tyres coming out of these corners the better you’ll be in the long run with drivers having bad exits due to bad tyre life, their top speed down the end of the straight will be down on yours.

Surviving turn 1

Like every race at every track, everyone fears the lap 1 turn 1 bust ups. Monza is a whole different ball game. A long run into turn 1 leaves the options open for drivers bombing up the inside and causing havoc. Having good race craft in this situation will play key. You can’t win a race into turn 1 but you can definitely lose it.

Mastering the chicanes

Monza is a very easy track to go jumping over curbs in the supercar. There are multiple chicanes around this track that will penalise you massively with a slow down or an off track which will make you drive off pace if you start to rack to many up. Even if you get through these chicanes but are slightly off line this will punish you down the long straights. Making sure you get the car pulled up while using the right amount of curb is key to keep the flow and not letting the car behind gain anymore than what it already gets with its draft.
