The Challenge of Going Solo

RaceOnOz field a solo entry in the 2022 Logitech G Pro Invitational Supercar Series, and it is proving a difficult task for their star driver, Luke Mitchinson. Whilst it is a fore gone conclusion Mitchinson is a very fast up and comer, it has being hard to get traction and breakthrough for that result they deserve so far.

Looking likely on many occasions and performing arguably best of any single car team, Mitchinson has just fallen short of that breakthrough. But we think its coming. And we think this because we know the team at RaceOnOz are putting their full support and resources behind Luke, they are doing everything possible internally to prepare Luke for battle.

Luke is enjoying the challenge of working with his team engineers to fine tune his car each round, “It’s a steep learning curve to figure out how to make the setups that work for me but I’ve also enjoyed the process”

Race On Oz have also identified qualifying pace as a major focus with Luke posting 26th at Sebring and 31st at Winton. A better starting position will obviously take more pressure off in the races and unlock more strategy options, something that Mitchinson is looking forward to at Red Bull Ring, a track he has had success at before.

Tune in on the 29th of June, Red Bull Ring will be a cracker!

Send It Sim Sports Going Aggressive

Send It Sim Sports manager, Joe Daley has affirmed they are looking for a more aggressive approach to the Logitech G Pro Invitational Supercar Series. Lamenting a slow start to the series for all four SISS entries, the team is looking to improve on the one main area they have identified as a major weakness, Qualifying.

With a best grid position of 26th across all team cars for both rounds, the brains trust at Send It Sim Sports have been analysing where they can get their gains from.

Speaking with Joe Daley, he says “the series is highly competitive and whilst it wasn’t underestimated, and we aren’t surprised at where we are currently, we know there is more out there for us”.

Starting each race buried in the field makes a good result unlikely, if not impossible. “The boys are working really hard and banking plenty of laps as well as data collection and telemetry work in order to fine tune” Joe explained.

"Being able to pull the big laps out of the bag will go a long way to helping the team"

SISS will be pressing forward with a more aggressive setup on their cars to extract the extra pace to vault them up the grid. On top of finding more pace from its cars, Joe is also looking for the team and drivers to execute in the important moments, and finish it off by being more clinical. “Being able to pull the big laps out of the bag will go a long way to helping the team”.

A strong aspect Send It Sim Sports have identified in their car has being tyre life, which makes them extremely confident they can feature in the results. The team is likely to recruit from within the team for their endure drives, as they have plenty of depth and quality within the organisation. However, we keep hearing rumours there may be one seat in that stable up for grabs, it’s going to be super interesting to see who ends up in that seat!

Tune in on June 29th to see if Send It Sim Sports have found some of that qualifying pace they are looking for!

Consistency Key for Gardiner

Whilst it has been a great start to the championship for Vendavals Griffin Gardiner, he remains not content with his performance to date.

Sitting seventh in the points heading into Red Bull Ring, and showing amazing consistency to qualify and finish in the top 10, Gardiner was bitterly disappointed not to be battling for a podium at Winton.

“Winton was disappointing for me, I had the potential to start at the front of the field and fight for a podium, it just didn’t work out for me on the night”.

Ominous words from Griffin as his pace already has been exceptional and scarily consistent, but it shows the drive he has to win, which is what the pro series is all about.

Griffin went on to say that he thought Vendaval Sim Racing definitely took a step forward at Winton, as himself and Jake Burton are working hard every round to go out and attack. Tune in on june 29th to see Griffin in full attack mode at Red Bull Ring.

Turnaround Time for Rivera

In what was a remarkable turnaround of form for any driver in the pro series, Marcelo Rivera posted his best result so far this season, assumed team bragging rights and announced himself as a real podium threat for the remainder of the championship.

Qualifying 28th for a lowly finish of 23rd by his own standards at Round one, Marcelo stunned the field by jamming his ERT Commodore third on the grid for round two at Winton. It wasn’t exactly out of the blue, as everyone knows what Marcelo can do, but the turnaround in form and to be the leading ERT driver against class team mates was a huge statement for Marcelo.

" I didn’t feel like I had to push like crazy to do a good lap time"

Speaking with “Celo”, he maintained it was really no shock to him as he knew his Sebring result was out of the ordinary, but as soon as he good stuck into testing and tuning for round two, he stated “I just seemed to feel really comfortable in the car to be honest. I didn’t feel like I had to push like crazy to do a good lap time”.

Car #21 picked up a pair of seventh place finishes, netting him sixth place overall for the round and vaulting him up to 12th in the points.

The ERT cars have looked very pacey all year but may lack a little bit of tyre life, whilst Marcelo agrees Winton is a unique circuit, he thinks they may have found a better direction and will remain strong in the coming rounds.

We head to Red Bull Ring on June 29th, whilst draft and staying in a draft train is a big feature of the track, tyre life will also play an important role. We will be watching with interest to see if the ERT cars have found that little bit extra to keep their rubber. If they have, we're sure Marcelo will be right in the battle.

Spotlight: Introducing Priya Richards

After two rounds of the championship, we are pretty sure everyone would agree that the stars of the show aren’t just the drivers, but also the broadcast and commentary team.

We have already re-introduced Stephen Sandman Clarke to you all, the voice of Sim Supercars, but who else do we have? This week, we introduce to you the voice behind the intros and the outros, Priya Richards.

Priya is a new name to sim racing but is not in any way new to the world of Motorsport.  Priya has been travelling to events around the country before she could walk having grown up in a family that shares 12 Bathurst 1000 wins with her father Steve and Grandfather Jim.

Through this, Priya has developed her own branding in the industry whilst working for Airtime Media in Melbourne as a videographer and editor.

An avid horse rider, Priya has the exact attributes in what we were looking for when the series began. A strong advocate for a higher presence of female involvement we approached Priya three weeks before the series began. Without hesitation she agreed and has done some outstanding work since.

It is a real honour to have the Richards name involved in our series, but the one that belongs to Priya as she carves her own path into the world of Sim racing.

You can catch more of Priya’s work on her podcast “Girls on the Grid” which you can catch on Spotify here:
